Foul Weather Fun
Tofino, British Columbia - To the old-timers who've weathered decades of
winter tempest along the wild side of Canada's Vancouver Island, the
weekend squall is barely worth hauling out the oilskins and duck boots.
Yet growing number of winter watchers, lured by fireplaces, hot toddies,
off-season discounts at romantic inns and sense of drama the Weather
Channel can't duplicate, are turning up on driftwood-laced beaches from
Vancouver Island to Southern Oregon.
The Pacific Rim area of Vancouver Island is accessible by air or by road
(a 41/2 hour drive from Victoria and 5 hour drive from Vancouver.
